S'mee came for a visit

baby Shower cake
Originally uploaded by foodchronicles.
S'mee came for a visit to the bakery on Thursday. Her husband had a conference to attend so she called and asked if she could come by and visit for the day. We replied to the affirmative and awaited her arrival.

Upon arriving she explained that she had bowed out of the desert tour to come see us instead. With that being said, we knew we had to offer something in return for her entertainment. Instead, we were the ones that we entertained.

She asked if she could help and we said we had a 6 inch white cake that needed to be iced and would she want to do that? Of course, S'mee says! So here's her first attempt at a cake in our bakery:

S'mee's first cake

Huh? The owner was amazed as was I. She was good! Then we gave her a cake on order to see what she could do. The result is the top picture. A blue cake with three little ducks on clouds or bubbles, was the request. So we told her to go for it and do what she would. Incredible. We left it in the case without boxing it for all to admire. And admired it was! Both of her cakes sold and compliments abound. Close ups of both:

So rule for all. When inviting S'mee for a play day, keep artistic things around to entertain her. She'll actually entertain you! Click on a picture and see the cakes in life size photos!

Hometown boy does good

Wow. Just saw this story about Jamba Juice. Nice!

I know one of the founders personally and I just have to say congratulations! It's amazing what a few credit cards and a bridge loan from a parent can do for someone! He started what became Jamba Juice in later years with a recipe his dad used during the summers to give the kids something good to have as a snack. He also ended up quitting college (much to everyone's dismay) to start this business. Ingenuity, hard work, and a creative financing program can yield some serious success on occasion. Let's not dismiss the hard work part. He's one of the hardest working guys I know.

Those old family concotions really paid off. I know the whole family must be happy now!

Inch Worm

The owner thinks I'm off my nut. But I had to do this cake. A mom came in about two weeks ago and had a darling almost one year old son with her. He would be having a party. She asked if I could do an inch worm cake for her. And, could I do it in the Baby Einstein colors? Well, of course I can.

The owner told me it would take all day. It didn't. I also did forty cupcakes to match. Then I went to Arizona for the weekend. I have no idea how the cake was received, but I hope it was enjoyed all around!

Neato! Ice cream while you play!

Amazon link
I saw this at Slice of Pink and had to go looking for them. What a cool way to teach a kid how to make ice cream! I like all the great colors and I think I want the blue one. This would be fun to have a few of them and have a bunch of kids over!

It's also available here.

I'm seeing spots!

Polka Dots
Originally uploaded by foodchronicles.
I did this cake as a quickie cake this afternoon. We had a bunch of random polka dots out of fondant, that no one else wanted to use, so I grabbed a bunch of like colors and did this cake. It sold this afternoon. Chocolate cake, cookies and cream filling and buttercream icing.

Mmmmm.
